Under the trade names MERKUR and VARA, MERKUR produces yellow pharmaceutical petroleum jellies for the customers. The products consist of highly refined mixtures of petroleum-based hydrocarbons. Yellow pharmaceutical petroleum jellies are primarily used as base materials and for increasing consistency in the pharmaceutical industry. Yellow pharmaceutical petroleum jellies are subjected to clay treatment during manufacture. Despite the remaining natural colour, this process frees the products from impurities. The raw materials used, some of which are hydrogenated, have a very low content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. All products possess good resistance to heat and light. Very closely defined physical properties such as congealing point and viscosity also guarantee our customers consistent quality in their finished products. Yellow pharmaceutical petroleum jellies are generally recognised as safe (GRAS). The products are not known to have any allergenic or skin irritation effects or other side effects.
